The Washington Redskins have a tough task ahead of them this Sunday, November 8 when they head to Foxborough, Massachusetts to take on the reigning Super Bowl champion New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium. The AFC East-leading Patriots are undefeated on the season with a mark of 7-0 after handing the Miami Dolphins a 36-7 defeat last Thursday. Meanwhile, the Redskins sit in second place in the NFC East with a 3-4 record. They enjoyed a bye in week seven and beat Tampa Bay 31-30 in their last outing two weeks ago.

The Redskins halted a two-game losing string with their nail-biting win over the Buccaneers and they fought back from a 24-point deficit to earn the victory. In fact, it’s the biggest comeback triumph in the club’s history. Quarterback Kirk Cousins had a big game and went 33 for 40 in passing for 317 yards in the air with three touchdown passes and no pick offs. He also carried the ball into the end zone for an eight-yard score during the second quarter to start the comeback. Tight end Jordan Reed was also hot with two touchdowns and 72 yards on 11 receptions. Washington is up against it though since the Patriots have a six-game winning streak intact at home and they’ve won those half dozen contests by 19.8 points on average.

The Redskins will need to somehow stop the powerful fifth-ranked New England offense which averages 414.6 yards an outing this year. The Washington defense allows 360.4 yards against on average per game so it will be interesting to see the outcome of the matchup. Cousins will be going toe-to-toe Tom Brady, the four-time Super Bowl winner and he’ll have to be close t perfect to pull out a win. Cousins has been intercepted twice in each of his fur losses and not at all in his three wins. Washington is 4-6 against the spread and a woeful 1-9 straight up in their past 10 road encounters.
The Patriots are 7-0 so far and it’s just the second time they’ve ever started a season that way. They’ve been winning games due to Brady and the rest of the squad’s offense. New England leads the league in points-per-game at 35.6 and have been unstoppable up to now. Brady went 26 for 38 in passing against Miami with four touchdown tosses and a total of 356 yards. He also set a league record as it was the 19th time in his career that he threw at least four touchdown passes and no interceptions in a game.

Rob Gronkowski caught six of Brady’s passes a touchdown and 113 yards. Julian Edelman was the recipient of a pair of touchdown passes and added another 81 yards. The Patriots now lead the NFL in passing touchdowns with 20. If the receivers can match their season average and second-best 329.3 yards per game against Washington, they shouldn’t have a problem extending their undefeated record. However, the Washington secondary isn’t too bad as it allows only 232 passing yards against per contest, which ranks them 10th-best in the league.
New England has trouble at home with Washington though and are 1-3 both against the spread and straight up against them in their past four meetings at Gillette Stadium. It would be quite a shock if they dropped this game however.
